Lyrics of "Respect"

(Otis Redding)
(oo) What you want
(oo) Baby, I got
(oo) what you need
(oo) Do you know I got it?
(oo) All I'm askin'
(oo) Is for a little respect when you come home (just a little bit)
Hey baby (just a little bit) when you get home
(just a little bit) mister (just a little bit)

I ain't gonna do you wrong while you're gone
Ain't gonna do you wrong (oo) 'cause I don't wanna (oo)
All I'm askin' (oo)
Is for a little respect when you come home (just a little bit)
Baby (just a little bit) when you get home (just a little bit)
Yeah (just a little bit)

I'm about to give you all of my money
And all I'm askin' in return, honey
Is to give me my profits
When you get home (just a, just a, just a, just a)
Yeah baby (just a, just a, just a, just a)
When you get home (just a little bit)
Yeah (just a little bit)

[Instrumental break]

Ooo, your kisses (oo)
Sweeter than honey (oo)
And guess what? (oo)
So is my money (oo)
All I want you to do (oo) for me
Is give it to me when you get home (re, re, re ,re)
Yeah baby (re, re, re ,re)
Whip it to me (respect, just a little bit)
When you get home, now (just a little bit)

R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Find out what it means to me
R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Take care, TCB

Oh (sock it to me, sock it to me,
sock it to me, sock it to me)
A little respect (sock it to me, sock it to me,
sock it to me, sock it to me)
Whoa, babe (just a little bit)
A little respect (just a little bit)
I get tired (just a little bit)
Keep on tryin' (just a little bit)
You're runnin' out of foolin' (just a little bit)
And I ain't lyin' (just a little bit)
(re, re, re, re) 'spect
When you come home (re, re, re ,re)
Or you might walk in (respect, just a little bit)
And find out I'm gone (just a little bit)
I got to have (just a little bit)
A little respect (just a little bit)

Artist Biography

Aretha Franklin

Aretha Louise Franklin is an American vocalist, song-writer and pianist, normally referred to as "The Queen of Soul". The fate of gospel music was perpetually altered in 1956 when a 14-year-old choir girl named Aretha first belted out "Precious Lord" at Detroit's New Bethel Baptist Church for 4,500 worshippers. Although renowned for her soul recordings, Franklin is also adroit at jazz, rock, blues, pop, R&B and Gospel music.

Aretha Franklin's lifetime dedication to songs, though frequently disrupted by personal havoc and tragedy, created a soul standard that remains recognized and endless today. At the age of fourteen, she recorded her first very album for JVB/Battle Records, where she issued Songs of Faith in 1956.Later she signed with Columbia Records where she initially scored her first hits. In 1967 Franklin launched her first Atlantic single, "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)", a blues ballad that introduced spectators to her gospel style. It proved to be a come through single, getting the Top 10 on the Hot 100 and holding the #1 spot for seven weeks on Billboard's R&B Singles chart.

Her next single, “Respect” led Franklin to superstardom. The song became a signature song of her career and reached #1 on both the R&B and the Pop charts—holding the top position on the former chart for a record eight weeks. Next, Franklin released a number of top-ten hits counting "Baby I Love You," "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman," and "Chain of Fools" and many more. Later, Franklin became the first artist to have a hit peak at each position from #1 - #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Franklin is one of the most privileged artists by the Grammy Awards, with 18 Grammys till date, which comprises the Living Legend Grammy and the Lifetime Achievement Grammy. She has gained a total of 20 #1 singles on the Billboard R&B Singles Chart. Franklin is the first female artist to enter into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in 1987. Franklin has scored a total of 45 "Top 40" hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, since 1961. In 2008, the American music magazine Rolling Stone spotted Franklin #1 on its list of The Greatest Singers of All Time.

Franklin was the only featured vocalist at the 2009 Presidential inauguration ceremony for Barack Obama.
